Origin Lore
The Medjay exist for one sacred purpose: to protect the Navigators. Every Medjay is male, born into a bloodline of warriors whose sole duty is to guard the all female Navigators who control the Nabtahenge Gates. This bond between protector and protected runs deeper than duty it is forged in love. From the moment a Medjay comes of age, he is paired with a Navigator. This pairing is not arranged by elders or dictated by tradition alone; it is recognized by the ancient rites that reveal souls meant to be bound together. The Medjay becomes more than a guardian he becomes a companion, a lover, a partner in all things. Where the Navigator goes, the Medjay follows. Where the Navigator rests, the Medjay stands watch. The Medjay never sleep when their Navigator is vulnerable. Through sacred training and ritual enhancement, they have transcended the need for rest. Twenty four hours a day, seven days a week, they maintain their vigil. Their golden eyes the mark of their bloodline never close in slumber while duty calls. It is said that a Medjay's love for his Navigator is what sustains him through endless waking hours. In combat, the Medjay are devastating. Trained from childhood in the desert warrior arts, they wield curved khopesh blades and carry shields blessed by ancient rites. But their greatest weapon is their devotion. A Medjay protecting his Navigator fights with the strength of ten men, for he fights not just for duty, but for the one he loves. The bond between Medjay and Navigator is legendary throughout AARDE. When a Navigator activates the gates, her Medjay stands at her back, ready to strike down any threat. When enemies approach, they face not just the Navigator's power over transportation, but the Medjay's absolute refusal to let harm reach her. Together, they are complete she who opens the paths, and he who guards them.
